Literature is characterized by a unique product of psychological world with a performance of linguistic art, which originates from modes of thinking and is closely correlated with the living conditions in different times. It can be referred to as a crystallization of the nation’s wisdom. In addition, illustration art is a special linguistic art based on painting meanwhile a combination of artistry and ideology.Chinese illustration art has undergone an unprecedented transformation in the 20 th century, accompanying the whole nation going through trials and hardships as well as frustrations in the searching path. What is more, it has experienced a mature booming after the founding of People’s Republic of China thus laying a marvelous breakthrough as well as influential artistic achievement. Then the impeding ten years of Cultural Revolution ranks secondly only to that, making it possible for the author to present a further research. This thesis aims to probe into the illustration art set in 1980 s based on the wide range and length of time in that it serves as an epitome of the overall period and development.Three factors will be presented in detail as follows to exemplify the artistic characteristics with several works in 1980s: Firstly, the contents chosen are relatively diverse and rich in categories form both home and abroad. Secondly, with a diverse content of art, Chinese artists make positive attempts at broadening the research orientation while absorbing artistic culture from abroad whether it is black and white or colorful. Thirdly, no more monotonous artistic style but a combination of realism, romanticism as well as symbolism is embodied to some extent. All these art phenomena mentioned are in accordance with this particular historical background, thus meeting the basic mental need of the artists as well as mass people. Generally speaking, the illustration art in 1980 s is of high research value for the sake of symbolization as well as its demonstration.
