Zhu Xi’s classical hermeneutics rooted in the tradition of ancient China classical hermeneutics. It developed a perfect theory and rich system, which became an important representative of the classical hermeneutics theory. This study tries to focus on The Analects of Confucius Variorum, by researching and analyzing the source of annotation to discuss Zhu Xi’s classical hermeneutics. This article contains the following four parts. In the first part, it combs Zhu Xi’s classical hermeneutics background and theory origin from tradition of hermeneutics, theoretical support, and practical needs these three aspects. In the second part, it briefly reviews how The Analects of Confucius brought out in book form and its interpreted history, linearly grasps the deve lopment of the clues from The Analects of Confucius to The Analects of Confucius Variorum. And with the help of the researching and analyzing the source of annotation The Analects of Confucius Variorum to summarize the methods and characteristics of Han and Tang and Song dynasties interpret classic, and then their influence on Zhu Xi’s classical hermeneutics. In the third part, it gives a comprehensive show of the characteristics of Zhu Xi’s hermeneutics from four aspects. Firstly, Zhu Xi’s annotation is co ncise and meaningful, and overcome the lacks of annotation in Han and Song Dynasty, integrates the path of hermeneutics. Secondly, it uses the documentary method and experience method to conclude the meaning of the text and saint, restructure the methods o f hermeneutics. Thirdly, through the annotation practice, it integrated the exegesis and theoretical deduction. Fourthly, Zhu Xi’s annotation absorbed others’ advantage, insisted on seeking truth from facts, and innovate the spirit of hermeneutics. In the fourth part, it summarizes the influence of Zhu Xi’s classical hermeneutics on ancient classics and traditional Confucianism, discusses the contribution and significance of Zhu Xi’s classical hermeneutics. And it is based on the contemporary scholars’ demonstration and the integrated viewpoint to analysis and appraisal Zhu Xi’s classical hermeneutics.
