As known, when emotional events happen, it will strengthen people’s memories about these events clearly. But, we are not sure what effects emotional events will have on people’s memories about earlier information. In short, will it lead to retro-active amnesia or retro-active enhancement? Recently some researches have shown that it is up to top-down target relevance to earlier information. So top-down target directivity of deflection mechanism is awakened by strengthening memory load in a degree, does it still result in emotional stimuli having an influence on memories of former neutral projects? Two tests in this thesis both used behavioral measurement, following and being based on oddball paradigm in previous researches to strengthen memory load by N-back. Under diverse memory load, it was to confirm that the influence of target directivity on the relationship between emotional stimuli on memories of former neutral projects.Test one chose 33 subjects, which adopted 3(valence: positive, negative, neutral) x2(target directivity: oddball-1, oddball) mixed factorial design that valence and target directivity were within subjects design, to research what influence emotional stimuli had on memories of former neutral projects under top-down target directivity when subjects strengthened moderate memory load. The result indicated that when the target directed at the neutral project, emotional image stimuli would strengthen memories about former neutral projects, otherwise it would not.Test two chose 31 subjects and used the same way mentioned above to research the same thing on a high degree of memory load. The test showed that it would strength memories like Test one. But the result did not indicated than when the target directed at the emotional image, emotional image stimuli would impair memories about former neutral projects. This research revealed that the influence of emotional stimuli on memories of former neutral projects under diverse target, when strengthen diverse memory load. These findings will contribute to further the basic mechanism of interaction between emotion and memory, and to further promote the understanding of the relationship between emotion and memory.
