As an important branch of the third wave of feminism, ecofeminism, a combination of feminism and ecologism, links the domination and exploitation of women and nature together. It claims that women and nature have natural and historical connections because they are both controlled by patriarchal society. Why does the ecofeminism have this claim? Can we find an answer to this question in Genesis, one of the most important books in western society? Through an in-depth Biblical analysis, from the perspective of ecofeminism, the author tries to find the underlying reasons for their link.In Genesis, in order to establish his dominant position and thoroughly defeat women, man first gets the permission from God and then constantly weakens the powers and positions of goddesses. To begin with, after an analysis of the relations between God and nature, God and humanity, mankind and nature, the author finds that mankind can dominate nature as God’s "agent." Secondly, heathen goddesses are explored and the author discovers that they are belittled like those female characters in Genesis, which indicates the fact that the goddess-domination is bound to be replaced by male dominance. Thirdly, the relations between men and women and the female characters in Genesis and Holy Bible are analyzed in order to have a complete understanding of the inequality between men and women and the female’s living conditions in ancient western times.Through the detailed analysis, it is reasonable to say that this time-honored book has paved the way for women and nature to join together. The theory of ecofeminism makes the mankind march closer to the goals of equality between men and women and the harmonious relations between humanity and nature.
