This is a report on the translation practice of the fourth chapter “ Researching subjectivity” of Beyond the Masks: Race, Gender and Subjectivity by Amina Mama, a Nigerian-British writer, feminist and academic. The translation task has been finished by the cooperation of our three- member group, and the fourth chapter I translated is over ten thousand words, which meets the MTI thesis requirements. The fourth chapter “Researching subjectivity” of Beyond the Masks: Race, Gender and Subjectivity is mainly about Amina Mama’s specific process of researching black women’s subjectivity. In this chapter, the author elaborates her research process including the selection of research object, the collection of black women’s conversation, as well as the participant in the study, and she addresses that the construction of the theory is based on the collection of materials. In translating this academic source text, I took Vermeer and Reiss’ s skopos theory as the guide, and Nida’s dynamic equivalence as direction. And eventually I present the problems encountered and solved during my translation, and my reflection in the translation report.
