Research On The Effects Of Information Framing And Construal Level On Overconfidence

Overconfidence is a kind of cognitive bias occurs in the process of judgment and decision making,individual overestimated their abilities,produced calibration deviation and excessive optimism.Overconfidence research has been the focus of socia l psychology research.Overconfidence in the early research mostly focused on people’s feelings and a process of subjectivity, in recent years, researchers began to attach great importance to the objective environment and the role of information. Researchers have confirmed that the type of information, plus or minus, articulation information such as the content difference of overconfidence play an important role.However, information difference is more widespread, information framing is the important embodiment of information difference as different presentation of information content.Existing research shows that the information framing has important influence on people’s judgment and decision-making behavior.However, the conclusion about the influence of information framing on overconfidence is not clear.Therefore, this study firs t explore the influence of information framing on overconfidence.At the same time, the information framing is not a single work of individual judgment decision-making, it is often associated with the individual characteristic variables work together in th e judgment and decision.Construal level,the attention of the researchers, is an important factor of dividual characteristic factors.This study explained the individual level and information framing together, considering the matching of information framing and construal level influence on overconfidence.This research includes two behavior experimental study:The first experiment invited 92 college students as subjects, adopting experiment method to manipulate information framework(positive/negative) and the type of feedback(positive/negative) to explore the influence of information framing and feedback type on overconfidence.Results show that the information framing and feedback has significant effect on overconfidence, the subjects in positive information framing condition of is significantly overconfident than the subjects in negative information framing; The subjects in positive feedback was significantly overconfident than the subjects in negative feedback.The first experiment invited 84 college students as subjects, using experimental method and test method to manipulate information framing(positive/negative) and construal level(high/low) two variables to explore the matching effect between information framing and construal level, whether matching or not influence overconfidence.Results show that there is a matching effect between the information framing and construal level, when matching, overconfidence was more extreme.According to the results of this study, we believe that the information framing has a significant effect on overconfidence; there is a matching effect between the information framing and construal level, when matching, overconfidence was more extreme.
