A Comparative Study Of Animal Words In Chinese And Thai Language

Many words in Chinese and Thailanguage are related with animals, animal words contain lots of cultural significance, animal words in different nationalities have their own cultural significance.A comparative study of animal words in Chinese and Thai language can uncover their inner meanings, which has high value on language, culture and customs in cross language studying.In this thesis, the data we study come from Modern Chinese Dictionary,the 6th version,and Thai Dictionary(2010), we go through all of the animal words and count their number, and study the meaning of them. This whole thesis, we divide it into five chapters, the content of each part as follows:The first chapter is an introduction that introduce the current research conditionhe research methods of this thesis, the research purposeand research significance.The second chapter, based on the statistical analysis of animal words in Chinese and Thai, will analyse the difference among quantity, classification andthe way of word formation.The third chapter will discuss the meaning of animal words in Chinese and Thai language based on different categories. Ingeneral, including the meanings of one kind of animal in Chinese and Thai are same or similar, the meanings of one kind of animal word are opposite, different animal words in Chinese and Thai express the same or similar meaning, some meanings in Chinese using animal words but not in Thai, and some meanings in Thai using animal words but not in Chinese.The fourth chapter will discuss the different factors that affecting the meaning of animal words in Chinese and Thai language.The fifth chapter is a conclusion.In addition, the statistics of the animal words in Chinese and Thai language will be attached to the end of this thesis.
