| The drum song, Night Thoughts, is a very classic piece of traditional percussion work. It is not only a frequently-performed solo in concerts, but also a commonly-practiced song in percussion learning. The Deep Night, revised by the famous percussion virtuoso and ethnic music theorist Professor Li Min Xiong, is the research object of this article. To summarize Professor Li Min Xiong’s drum performing techniques of Chinese percussion, the author combines personal performing experiences and research results as a postgraduate. The article is composed of a brief description of Professor Li Min Xiong and the drum song, an understanding of the creation background, an analysis of the music score, and technical analysis of drum performing techniques of Chinese percussion extended from the author’s learning practices. Since Chinese traditional drum song Deep Night is revised from Peking Opera, its melody is special, which leads to different performing techniques. The author is to analyze the song in various aspects in order to draw the conclusion on Professor Li Min Xiong’s drum performing techniques of Chinese percussion. |
