Yuhonglou Copybook for Calligraphy was mainly copied by carving in the middle and late period of Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty by four persons of three generations, who were Kong Jisu, Kong Guanglian, Kong Zhaoxun and Kong Zhaohuan. It has 101 volumes of 15 types, composed of calligraphy from 584 pieces of carved stones(571 saved till now), which makes it the largest series rubbings in the world today. It has imposed great influence over its following generations. This paper will conduct a systemic investigation research on Yuhonglou Copybook for Calligraphy by on-the-spot investigation and verification of other pertinent literature materials, in which the photocopy of Yuhonglou Copybook for Calligraphy and Rong Geng’s Catalogue of Rubbings will be the underpinning literature. In the first step, the editing time, naming, amount, status quo, historical background, carving conditions, etc. of the rubbings will be investigated and discussed. Then the rubbings will be divided according to the basis of carving, namely ink marks or the old rubbings, which is a research on the original source of the selection of rubbings.Editing and carving methods, signatures to the rubbings, and the taboos and omissions will also be discussed. In the final, we will explain the historic value and the status of the rubbings. This paper believes that this huge series of folk rubbings(private carving) was designed to memorize Zhang Zhao. It was established by the Kong family in Qufu led by Kong Jisu and then expanded to cover calligraphy of all generations and great scholars of the time. This project benefited from the powerful economic strength and the many friends of the Kong family. Its quality was secured by the high calligraphy expertise and percipient of Kong Jisu and other persons. Yuhonglou Copybook for Calligraphy, seen from the perspective of Qing Dynasty calligraphy, has conserved much calligraphy of then famous scholars, hence of great significance.
