Modern dance since entering China in the early 20 th century, has more than 100 years history, but as a result of before the founding of the complex social environment and cultural change, leading to the development of modern dance in China than western countries as its continuity and coherence. Before reform and opening up, dance and all literary and artistic creation, by the people’s struggle for life, is affected by the far-left thoughts, modern dance in China from 1949 to 1979 in this particular years once silent, and began to recover in the 1980 s, into the new stage of development. Subject to study the Chinese audience’s perception of modern dance, among them \ "the present\" specifically to thirty-five years since reform and opening to the outside of this period of time, \ "the audience\" specifically to read modern dance performance in China, directly or indirectly, have a certain understanding of modern dance, and make evaluation of the receiver.Since China’s reform and opening up, along with the development of Chinese economy, modern dance was the first to take root in the first-tier cities, and a small percentage of the audience’s affection and popular, modern dance as a kind of strong rebellious consciousness of modern art, in the early 1980 s, is rejected in China, but as the change of social environment and the way of people’s life, the audience’s aesthetic habits are changing. Today, modern dance in a nationwide promotion, make more and more Chinese audience have the opportunity to appreciate the modern dance. However, as a branch of modern art, modern dance is a experimental and creative art, and popular entertainment, it is not for the purpose of profit, not meaning to cater to the audience, thus limits its audience is bigger also, this article through to the Chinese modern dance audience group characteristics and the audience psychology research, to explore the Chinese audience’s perception of modern dance.
