Portrait, which has a long history in China,is a very important branch of ancient Chinese Figure painting. In ancient China, portrait is called “vivid” and “photograph”. Portrait has developed thousands years in the ancient Chinese long history of art.During the Ming and Qing dynasties. The development of Chinese Figure painting has a relation to the Western culture that western missionary brought. Chinese Figure painting was born in the communication of the Chinese culture and western culture, and reached the apex of development by communicating with each other.Zeng Jing, given alias Bochen was a great master of portrait picture during the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty. Under the background of the eastward spread of western culture, western painting had an impact on his painting style when he inherited the traditional artistry of pastel rendering at the same time, cultivated a unique painting style.His portrait is skinny, bake dye,and stereoscopic. The portrait of person lay great stress on observing society, catching the most attractive point, elaborate describtion especially eyes, vividandlifelike.His painting style which was called “Bochen school” has a great hit at that time, circulating among the Japan.He is one of the most outstanding painters in the history of painting.As a highly influential Chinese portrait painter during the Ming and Qing dynasties, Zeng Jing developed “Bochen school”, which has an epoch-masking meaning and has a major influence on future generations. There are few schools of painting named with painter’s name in Chinese history of painting, which also shows Zeng Jing’s importance.His success in the art of portrait is related to the special period of the eastward spread of western culture.
