| Theory of Literature is the representative work of Wellek, the introduction of the book caused many problems and discussion in the field of national literature. In compliance of reading at the same time, there are often appear mutate and misreading phenomena to Theory of Literature. This paper tries to explain the accept condition of Theory of Literature in China, gets to the bottom of the problems and thoughts in the literature research system, and then reflects on localization problems existing in the process of western literary theory in China, in order to gain more academic inspiration.The main body of the paper includes three parts. The first part is chapter 1, outlines the situation that Wellek’s literary theory was introduced in China. In the 1960 s, there were sporadic introduction to him in China, but mainly as the object of criticism; The real understanding of Wellek and Theory of Literature is the beginning of the first Chinese version of the Theory of Literature after 1984. There are three versions of Theory of Literature in China, namely the 1984 edition, the 2005 edition, and the 2010 edition. The difference is mainly manifested some of the changes of form and translation problems between the first two versions.The second part includes chapter 2, chapter 3 and chapter 4, which are elaborated on the reception of Theory of Literature in the domestic. Wellek’s literary ontology takes the work as the research center. Chinese academic circle on the one hand to acceptance of the theory of compliance, on the other hand misinterpreted, put the “writers subject”, “the reader subject” as the “literature ontology”, promote the literature "ontology" to "subjectivity" in the direction. Wellek divides the literature into internal and external study. Chinese scholars proposed “internal rules” and “external rules” in the new version in the analysis and interpretation of the theory, and had a misreading of Wellek’s content on the writers, readers and psychology, etc. inside and outside the home, sparked a literature study of “Turning Inward” ideological trend. Wellek’s literary history to return to literary and aesthetic as written history philosophy. Chinese academic circles opportunity to reflect on the Chinese literary history research status, so as to promote the ideological trend of “Rewriting Literary History”. But in the concrete practice of "rewriting", the Chinese academic circles had a misreading of Wellek’s literary history.The third part is chapter 5, summarizes and focus on analyses the reasons for the adaptation and misreading phenomena of Theory of Literature in China. Misreading in the process of not derogatory sense, but the Chinese academic circle in accept foreign theories based on China’s unique environment of timely response, some of them even intentional, creative misreading. After the 1980 s, because has experienced 10 years of oppression and destruction of the cultural revolution, an important characteristic of Chinese literary theory is the subjectivity of the make public, have strong humanistic color. The uplift of humanity so that scholars put writers, readers, as well as the subject and related research in the main status, therefore to misread Wellek’s literary ontology, internal research and external research theory, literary history. In addition, the Chinese academic circle also have misread to Wellek’s discourse on subject category "literary theory". Wellek never had the meaning of “literary theory” as a subject. In order to clarify the three fields of study, he distinguishes between “literary theory”, “literary criticism”and “literature history”. It is a kind of creative misreading that the Chinese academic circles put the three into the category of “literature and art” as the branches.On the analysis of acceptance of Theory of Literature suggests academics not only to complete and in-depth interpretation of its meaning, but also to give full attention to the misreading phenomenon existing in the Chinese context in the study of western literary theory. |
