Embodied theories of cognition argue that concepts include a lot more perceptual content than a clear divide between perception, cognition, and behavior would suggest. Many research supported the idea that cognition shares processing mechanisms with perception and action. Still some findings showed children can spontaneously produce a range of metaphorical expressions that highlight similarities between objects during early preschool years. Many researchers found that people use metaphorical mappings from concrete to abstract concepts. And according to conceptual metaphor theory, image schemas structure and provide sensory-motor grounding for abstract concepts. And some views about relational structure proposed the relationship between concepts in the abstract domain can be structured by using the relational structure from concrete domain. As a kind of abstract concept, power is refer to the potential to influence others and to promote one’s own goals. We designed 4 experiments to examine the developmental change and popularity of the metaphorical mechanism which Mongolian adolescence and adult used to conceptualize the concept of power. In study 1 we testified whether Mongolian adolescence metaphorically represent the concept of power by using vertical force schema; In study 2 we testified for Mongolian adolescence whether the upper and lower stimulus lead to activation of up-down motor schema. Study 3 testified without activation of up-down motor schema, whether Mongolian adolescence using up-down schema to metaphorically represent the meaning of powerful and powerless. In study 4 we testified whether Mongolian adolescence dialectically structure image schema of power difference underlying relational framework. The results showed: Mongolian adolescence using vertical force schema to metaphorically represent the concept of power, developmental and clearly similarity for the same schema between junior and high school students; For upper and lower stimulus, we found clear activation of up-down motor schema, and obvious increasing of task accuracy rate as age development; Without activation of up-down motor schema, Mongolian adolescence still using up-down schema to metaphorically represent the meaning of powerful and powerless; Compared with adult, Mongolian adolescence are more responsive to powerless words; Underlying relational framework Mongolian adolescence dialectically structure image schema of power difference, and assessment for words about power junior students generally put them at a higher position; We found similarity and progressive developmental change between Mongolian adolescence and adult for metaphorically representation of power. And living in a dynamic environment, to realize and structure image schemas individuals needs to take into account the factor of relational framework. Especially individuals still in the developmental stage of cognitive and physical structure, their perspective, cognitive ability and metaphorical ability are also being developments.
