As a famous composer, music educator, and music theorist in modern times of China, Huabo Lu has made a significant contribution to the development of the music education in China. In his creation career of music, all of the works were closely associated with the times background; most importantly, the characteristic modes of his music creation, which realized a integration of Chinese and western contributed to the development of the modern music creation in China significantly. Both of the important role he played and the far-reaching effects have brought about in the history of Chinese contemporary music were irreplaceable. As a music educator, he has been focused on the music education for about 50 years, and during those periods, there are many colleges where he had coached at the early stage of the anti-Japanese war, e.g., the Fujian Academy of Music, Central China Normal Academy, Beijing Academy of Drama, Hubei Arts Institute, and Guangxi Arts Institute; and thus, a large number of qualified music graduates had been trained. Even to this day, the education approach and propositions, which he had advocated, still play an important role of guideline in the field of music education. There are more than 130 literatures with a variety of writing style in his career, e.g., review, monograph. It is obvious that an indelible accomplishment was achieved in his life, which had taken a step forward in the development of music in China. In this paper, it was focused on the study of the viewpoints advocated by Huabo Lu; moreover, the theory of pedagogy and ethnomusicology was also used as analytical methods in this paper. His characteristics of music education were summarized, basing on the music activities which he had attended, the music works, and books; meanwhile, the viewpoints on the music education were further studied.Combining with the present our country music education reform of fashion trend, in order to explore the music education advocated in the contemporary value. In this paper, I hope to find a strong theoretical basis for the development of modern music education in China, in order to promote the vigorous development of modern music education in China.There are five sections in this paper, as summarized in the following:Introduction:a review of the viewpoints advocated by Huabo Lu, and a series of corresponding questions of value.1. Music life of Huabo Lu; events in his life, especially for the music activities he had attended were summarized.2. Contributions of Huabo Lu to the development of music; In this paragraph. I summarized contributions of Huabo Lu in composition, musical theory, textbook compilation, teaching, translation education of national music contribution.3. Viewpoints advocated by Huabo Lu: the viewpoints and characteristics about the music education of normal colleges, and even on that of primary and high schools were studied.4. Contemporary value of music advocated by Huabo Lu: In this paragraph, I discussion Influence and value of Huabo Lu’s Viewpoints on the contemporary music education.
