Yang Wanli is a distinguished person who has achieved a string of successes in Li-philosophy, literature and politics in South-Song Dynasty. His poems which are called "Chengzhai Style" have been attached high importance to constantly because they are distinctively unique. But his reputation in essay is covered just for his grand fame in poems. As a matter of fact, Yang Wanli is not only a top-performer in poetry, but a high-achiever in essay sphere. 《Chengzhai Collected Works》has 133 volumes, in which there are 42 volumes for poetry,1 for commentary of poems, several Ci,6 volumes for the random, and others are all essay. This vast majority of essay not only has quite complete types or forms of literature, but outstanding achievements in esthetics. There are more and more works in his essay during recent years in the academic field, but they still have put an excessively high premium on his poetry over essay, so we can do a lot from method to depth.Confronting such a grim reality, this thesis is based on Yang Wanli’s essay. After combing out his life events, the origin of his ideology, his main opinions, the article will discuss the values in ideology and artistic achievements linking analyzing the representative work.The thesis intends to give depth exploration and discussion by five chapters. Chapterl will simply introduce something about Yang Wanli and his essay including his life events, the origin of his ideology, his main literary thought, and the conservation and classification of his essay. Yang Wanli’s Political-essay will be analyzed and discussed in Chapter 2, containing two parts:the first is the values in ideology of Yang Wanli’s Political-essay which is divided into six sections to study, and the second is showing the artistic achievements of these works. The research target of Chapter3 is Yang Wanli’s Ci-fu. First of all, the thesis gives the classification of types or forms of literature of Yang Wanli’s Ci-fu, and then emphasizes the reflection of practical literary-thought in his Ci-fu. After that, Yang Wanli’s glorious character reflected by his Ci-fu will be discovered. At last this is still the artistic achivements. In Chapter4,the thesis is try grasping the essence in both thought and esthetics about Yang Wanli’s Ji-essay and chasing more views which Yang Wanli has towards learning and being a person. At the last chapter, the thesis is concerning other parts in《Chengzhai Collected Works)) but not referring to above such as Yang Wanli’s preface, postscript, the random and so on.
