Wang Guowei’s Views Of Drama Literature

Wang Guowei’s drama study focuses on literature. His theory influenced on drama study and literary history for 100 years. This thesis sums up Wang’s views of drama literature, and appraises it with the context of drama development in his days and at present.This thesis concludes seven parts. The first chapter introduces the context of this paper, and sums up Wang’s views of drama literature, and summarizes others’ research finding. The second chapter discusses Wang’s value on drama literature. It sums up his view on drama history, and then analyses his regards to drama literature and the influence of his theory of “literature varies from generation to generation”. The third chapter focuses Wang’s points on drama article, including his views on the relationship of melody and spoken parts, narrative form, Yijing, and structure. The fourth chapter focuses on Wang’s aesthetic standards of drama literature, including tragedy, comedy and character. The fifth chapter discusses Wang’s opinions on writers. Wang regarded on their contribution on drama history and estimated their accomplishment and styles. But it seems that he ignored some writers on purpose. This chapter searches for answer with his theory of personality. The sixth chapter reflects Wang’s views with his background and current drama literature. The seventh chapter is the conclusion.
