Translation Of Infinitives In Motor Vehicle Sales Act Of New Zealand

This is a translation report on the translation of infinitives. The translation material used in this report is the Motor Vehicle Sale Act 2003 of New Zealand. There are a lot of infinitives in this Act. Infinitives are one of the most common forms in English. In the process of translating legislative documents, the translation of infinitives may influence the quality of target language. Therefore, the author mainly explores the translation methods of infinitives in legislative texts. Firstly, the author briefly introduces the definition and the translation methods of infinitives in common English. Then, the author discusses the translation methods of infinitives in the Motor Vehicle Sale Act 2003 of New Zealand. These methods include conversion, reverse, and sequential translation. Finally, the author draws a conclusion and summarizes some gains in the translation practice.
