This is a translation report of legislative texts and the source text for this report is Chapter 4 of American Farm Credit Act(2009). The Farm Credit Act is an act on rural financial market, with its purpose to ensure the provision of sufficient and flexible money to the rural areas and satisfy the need of rural credit loan in the present and future.Based on the stylistic features of legislative text, this paper analyzes the feature of source text as a whole, and makes a conclusion from the perspective of word, sentence and discourse: there are lots of doublets used in the source texts; conditional sentences abound in the source language; and at the discursive level, although the sentences are arranged in a logical way, the syntactic structures are rather complicated and hard to understand. These features contribute to the difficulties in translation. The report, based on the comparison between the Chinese and English legislative texts and under the translation principle of accuracy and refining, explores the translation methods for legislative texts, and hopefully provides constructive suggestions to the translation of similar legal texts.
