As the subject of translation, translator is an important participant in the construction of national culture. With "cultural turn" in translation studies, the subjective role of translator has been recognized and studies on translator’s subjectivity have gained further development. Translator’s subjective factors, latent in translation activities, greatly exert influence on translation quality. This paper makes an analysis of a translation project and the manifestations of translator’s subjectivity in the project in order to arouse the subjectivity awareness of translators, and help them to improve translation quality and efficiency.Based on the study of the English-Chinese translation of the educational E-mails of American Secondary Schools (ASS), Chapter One gives the definition of E-mail, introduces the educational E-mails of ASS and analyzes two text types of them:the legal agreements and the school term reports. Chapter Two makes a study of the lexical, syntactical and textual features of legal agreements and the school term reports, and respectively points out the specific functions of them. Chapter Three, after defining translator’s subjectivity, introducing the characteristics and reviewing historical views, makes an analysis of the manifestations of translator’s subjectivity in the translation of educational E-mails of ASS. Chapter Four conducts a project summary of the feedback from the agency and readers, and the self-assessment of the translator, and states limitations of the study of this paper. The findings of this paper and suggestions of the author are put forward in the conclusion. After the study on the translation project, the translator’s subjectivity and the manifestations of translator’s subjectivity in the translation, this paper makes a clearer illustration of translator’s subjectivity and puts emphasis on the importance of it during translating process. It is revealed that in the translation preparation period, the analysis of the functions of the translation and the language features of the original texts is crucial to improve the translation quality and translating efficiency, and that the functioning of translator’s subjectivity varies with the language features of the original texts and the functions of the corresponding translation. This paper analyzes translator’s subjectivity from an MTI student’s perspective, intended to give reference to the MTI students when they are involved in translation projects, and to contribute to the further studies of translator’s subjectivity in non-literary translation.
