The quality of liquor advertising translation is an important factor affecting the export of liquor. So far, the research on the translation of liquor advertising by domestic scholars is not enough. The purpose of this study is to explore the translation principles,strategies and the best approaches of liquor advertising translation under the guidance of functionalist translation theory in order to promote the export of liquor.This thesis introduces the definition, classification, function, analyzes the characteristics of Chinese and English advertisement; it systematically introduces the background, development process of the functional translation theory, explains the main viewpoints of leading scholars in the school; introduces the core concepts of functionalist theory, illustrates the possibility and the starting point of the functionalist translation theory in the application of liquor advertising translation; some translation strategies and methods, such as: literal translation, free translation, addition,abridgement were discussed. By analyzing 16 cases, the study proves that functionalist translation theory, especially Skopostheorie can give valuable guidance to liquor advertisement translation.
