Traditional Chinese Buddhist art is develop and finally formed in the process of nationalize of Buddhism. When ancient artists are creating the Buddhist statues, they set off from the nation’s aesthetic. They change the creation from a passively copy way into an active creation and then slowly form their own artistic characteristics. Combined with my practice of making Buddhist sculptures, my thesis is mainly about how to create Buddhist statues which belong to our time. With the influence of Western art, absorbing the nutrients of traditional Buddhist art as well as making innovation is what we should do. |
