As the prosperity of Positive Psychology, forgiveness research has gradually becomeone of the hottest topics in the study of psychology; therefore there is great significance tothe study of forgiveness. Face is not only a characteristic of Chinese social culturephenomenon, but is also a shared trait in most of the traditional social commonphenomenon. Face has extensive influence on interpersonal communication. As theprocess of globalization, today’s Chinese society not only has the traditional Orientalculture but also has received an extensive influence of Western culture. In order toinvestigate the influence of face on university students’ tendencies to forgive, thisargumentation will discuss forgiveness in detail by two studies. In study one; theresearcher discussed the general factors which have influence on forgiveness and whetherthe face would have an impact on tendencies to forgive of individuals who hold differentcultural inclinations. In study two; through categorizing faces, the researcher has discussedthe influences of different type of faces on the tendencies to forgive of individuals whohold different cultural inclinations. Results are as follows:(1) Demographic variables and personality traits have no significant effect on culturalinclinations.(2) Whether face is damaged or not and different culture tendencies have significanteffects on the tendency to forgive. When face is damaged, individuals’ violations haveincreased, and tendencies to forgive have declined in both two cultural inclinations.(3) When face is damaged, no matter what type of faces, the Oriental Cultureindividuals has showed higher aggressive motives; while Western Culture individuals’aggressive motives is not significant.(4) When face is damaged, both twocultural inclinations’ individuals have showedsignificant avoidance motives. Oriental Culture individuals have showed higher avoidancemotives on the offences which has damaged moral face than which has damaged socialface; while Western Culture individuals have showed no significant difference on the bothtypes of faces.
