With the beginning of secularization, sacred filling receded gradually and angels no moreexist, which disappeared in our consciousness. Peter Berger believes that it must start fromourselves in such religious situation, even if the "transcendental representation" has become arumor, we shall investigate these rumors and trace their sources. In A Rumor of Angels:Modem Society and the Discovery of the Supernatural,what mainly be discussed is therediscover of the supernatural possibility of a theological reflection in modern society.Following The Sacred Canopy: Elements of a Sociological Theory of Religion, PeterBerger gives much attention to the relationship between religion and secularization based ontheories of sociology of religion and the basic understanding of the nature and function ofreligion. The first chapter discusses the study of the sociology of religion under the system ofPeter Berger’s secularization of religion with clue of the relationship between religion andhuman activities, which elaborates the role of religion in the construction and maintenance ofthe human world, etc., and then analyzes the secularization of contemporary society. We haveto admit the crisis of secularization on religion under current religious situation. Peter Bergeranalyzes the challenges of "the so-called recluse of the supernatural ". Therefore, the core ofthis thesis is to overcome the inherent secular religion, the second chapter starts to comparethe sociological study of religion with the traditional religious as a whole in the way ofcriticism and vision, which focuses on the possibility of theology and to make the famous"new five way" to enter the inner experience of man, finding “the signals oftranscendence” so that to elaborate theological argumentation.A Rumor of Angels, a book extends Berger’s overcome of secularization onreligion,where he puts more attention on non-secular significance to religious secularizationand the following writings. the third chapter dives analysis in the“relativizing therelativizers”,theological position of"new five way", researches of Berger’s "anti-secular".
