This translation report is based on the translation practice of three chapters (Chapter 5, Chapter 8 and Chapter 10) from My Life as an Experiment, which is one of the best sellers of the American writer, A·J·Jacobs. In this book, the author records ten enlightening stories related with his experimental life as a human guinea pig. By writing down his experience and his feelings faithfully, he offers readers many new perspectives of life. For Chinese readers, the book is also of great value. It can help them learn more about American culture, society and their way of thinking. The report analyzes some problems encountered in the translation process of the work, and some possible solutions are offered from the angle of Relevance Translation Theory. The report consists of four chapters:the description of the source text, the translation process, the case study and the conclusion of this translation practice. In the first chapter, the translation material is introduced briefly in terms of its author and its stylistic characteristics. The second part gives a description of the preparation work before translation, the problem classification during the translation and the proofreading process after translation. Some core concepts of the Relevance Translation Theory are also illustrated in this part. The third chapter is the main body of this report. Three aspects are mainly dealt with under the principles of Relevance Translation Theory in this part, including the translation of general terms and the terms with cultural load on lexical level, the translation of simple sentences and compound sentences on the syntactic level, and the translation of metaphor, parallelism and the use of idioms on the rhetorical level. Chapter four is the conclusion part, in which a summary is made about the translation practice. Relevance Translation Theory turned out to be a good guiding principle in translating materials related with culture.
