This thesis focuses on the English reading anxiety of the Non-English major sophomores in China. There are 60 subjects from one class of accounting major and the other class of the economics major of 2012 in a college of Shanxi. The research methods adopted are qualitative and quantitative, in the form of questionnaire and test. The questionnaire is made up of 3 parts:the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale(FLCAS) compiled by Horwitz, the Foreign Language Reading Anxiety Scale (FLRAS) designed by Saito, and the Self-Rating Test Anxiety Scale designed by the Chinese Juvenile Psychological Consultation Center. The reading comprehension test refers to the reading requirement of the National College English Test. The author chose the reading comprehension materials from a set of reading comprehension section(not including Section A) of 2014 College English Test Brand 4 Simulation Exercises compiled by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. All the data was analysed with SPSS 17.0 and EXCEL.The study shows that:The subjects lack full understanding of the cultural background. There is not a broad communication environment which can influence students’two language communication, and it is a very important reason why the students experience anxiety in English reading. Some subjects have severe English reading anxiety which has affected their physical body quality. Some subjects couldn’t use the proper reading strategies when they are reading English texts, so they are scared. Then the writer drew her conclusion through One-Way ANOVA, correlation analysis and Excel data processing. The results show that that the reading anxiety of average student are not so serious as the top students. The anxiety of girls are more serious than boys, and boys showed more stable state than girls in the face of reading difficulty.
