In this paper, our purpose is to explore three unique themes of Ang Lee’s movie. That is emotional, rational, intellectual feelings. Affected by both Eastern and Western cultures, Ang Lee’s movies exhibit different angles. In his screenplays, Ang Lee enhances "three-step" method. Through the movie’s characters’ mouth, Ang Lee expresses the values of individual hearts. Through the film’s narrative skills, Ang Lee develops the new language of lighting, sound and choreography. Ang Lee analyzes the significance of patriarchy, sex and lust. He explores the ideology of personal relationship and subjective consciousness in his movies. Eventually he focuses on emotional, rational and intellectual feelings.In this thesis the author compares the character in Ang Lee’s film with the director. The author discusses the Ang Lee’s film theme: sex, desire, and survival. The author also discusses the culture shock in Ang Lee’s films.In the first chapter the author discusses the contents of the thesis.In the second chapter the author explores the screenplays of Ang Lee’s films. The author discusses the writing mode of Ang Lee’s Screenplay by analyzing Ang Lee’s four films.In the third chapter the author analyzes the narrative skills of Ang Lee’s films. The author also discusses the film language of Ang Lee and how it affects his thoughts.In the fourth chapter the author makes a research on the relationship between rationality and intellectuality in Ang Lee’s films.In the last chapter the author makes a sum-up of Ang Lee’s film, such as his screenplay, his directing skill, his film’s theme, the rationality, the intellectuality, and its relationships.
