Language And Cultural Analysis Of Jinzhong Village Names

This article has made a comprehensive investigation of village names of Jinzhong,involving 1 district(Yuci), 1 city(Jiexiu), 9 counties(Taigu, Qixian, Pingyao, Lingshi, Yushe, Zuoquan, Heshun, Shouyang, Xiyang),from the perspective of language and culture. The study objects are the 2730 village names of 118 Township of Jinzhong.In the content, the article mainly studies the phonetic features of the village names, the namemorphemes way of the village names,rhetoric of the village names,and the regional culture in the village names. In the end,we give some suggestions on the standardization of village names of Jinzhong.This paper is divided into six chapters.The introduction part mainly analyzed the history and current situation of study of place names, the history and current situation of Jinzhong, the scope of this paper, research significance and research methods of investigation.The second chapter analyzes the phonetic features of the village names of Jinzhong. The majority of the village names are double syllable names and three syllable names. Two syllable names of the village are dominant, which is in line with the "double syllable" trend in the modern Chinese vocabulary development. The three syllable of the names of the village are more obvious. They are not easy to have the same names but easy to remember. So, there are many three syllable names of Jinzhong. In the syllable collocation, Tonal alternately make the village names rhythmical and harmonious. The phonetic of the majority of the village names is tonal alternately. There are also a lot of village names whose phonetic is the level tone.The third chapter analyzes the morphemes way of the village names of Jinzhong. In the compound village names, the partial type are in the majority. The additional type are also accounted for a certain proportion. But the joint type, the subject predicate type and the compound type of the village names of Jinzhong are less, which is consistent with the formation rules of Chinese place names.The fourth chapter analyzes the type of the village names of Jinzhong. The types involve geographical location,natural landscape, natural resources, cultural landscape, figures, historical legends and concept and emotion. The category is subdivided into a plurality of small class analysis. This is a comprehensive study of the type of the village names of Jinzhong.The fifth chapter analyzes the rhetoric of the village names of Jinzhong. The rhetoric include metaphor, analogy, hyperbole, metonymy, homophonic pun, allusion, taboo and other rhetoricmethods.The sixth chapter analyzes the culture of the village names of Jinzhong. This chapter study the relationship between the village names of Jinzhong and political culture, economic activities, the military activities, clan, religious activities,the legend of historical and facts and ideas from the multi angles. We try to understand and reflect all sides of social life in Jinzhong, including the politics, economy, military, culture and ideology from the name of the village’s point of view.The seventh chapter studies the standardization of the village names of Jinzhong. This chapter study the phenomenon of same names in Jinzhong, the words in the village names which are influence by spread of pronunciation, and the words in the village names from dialect. We give some countermeasures and suggestions in the end.
