"Ambiguous" History

History plays an important role during the development of the society, and how to know history relates to the development of a country and nation. Now our country is in the key period of socialist development, ideology and culture of western capitalist countries has been increasingly penetrated into ordinary people’s life, some questions and contradictions emerge more apparently. Many people have different views about whether we should keep the socialist road and how to do it. The research to history view of Merleau-Ponty is helpful for our comprehensive and objective understanding of history in detail, and further to promote the development of Marxist history view in China. It is also helpful for our keeping socialist ideal and faith, and providing theoretical support for keeping the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics.This paper talks about Merleau-Ponty’s history view by three parts. The first part talks about its source, including the philosophical foundation and historical backgrounds of Merleau-Ponty’s history view. And the philosophical foundation focuses on epistemology and intersubjectivity which relate to history view closely. And the historical backgrounds mainly talks about Marxist historical materialism, Max Weber’s relative historical conception, and the subjectivity view of history of the Lukacs. The second part is about Merleau-Ponty’s ambiguous history view. In this part, Merleau-Ponty’s history view is deeply analyzed by dialectics ambiguity of subject and object, intellectual and rational politics ambiguity, history and philosophy ambiguity. And the ambiguity of Merleau-Ponty’s history view is gradually showed clearly by analysis and discuss one by one in depth. The third part is about the evaluation of Merleau-Ponty’s history view. It analyzes the status of Merleau-Ponty in western Marxism, and evaluates the ambiguity of Merleau-Ponty’s history view and historical materialism.
