| In the art history of twentieth century, as the first American native art school, Abstract Expressionism has a tremendous impact on the succeeding schools. Abstract Expressionist artists form their mature style in the late 1940 s, and achieved international status in the late 1950 s. In the process of development of Abstract Expressionism, many art institutions, galleries, critics and the mass media make promotive influences to its success. The Museum of Modern Art is the most influential one among them. The Museum organized a series of exhibition of the Abstract Expressionism at home and abroad from the late 1940 s to the late 1950 s. The milestone of this series of exhibition is “The New American Painting†which toured eight European cities from 1958 to 1959. This travaling exhibition brought American modern painting to the Europe, and established the status of Abstract Expressionism in the art history of twentieth century. In order to analyze the success of the process of Abstract Expressionism, this paper will focuses on the series of exhibition of Abstract Expressionism at home and broad which was organized by the Museum of Modern Art in mid-twentieth century, and in turn to explores the impact which produced by the series of exhibition on the Museum of Modern Art. |
