| In 2012, Nobel Prize in literature was announced—Chinese writer Mo Yan won the crown of laurel. Nobel Prize committee gave him a high evaluation: “with hallucinatory realism merging folk tales, history and the contemporaryâ€. Nobel Prize in literature committee president Westerberg praised Mo Yan as not just the greatest writer in China, but also the greatest writer in the world.Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out is one of the representative works of Mo Yan. It depicts 50 years’ rural China history from 1950 to 2000. Focusing on the serious topic of land, it interprets all sorts of relationship between farmers and land. Through the artistic image of reincarnation, it shows the tenacious, optimistic and tough spirit of Chinese farmers since the establishment of People’s Republic of China. This novel won the second Dream of the Red Chamber Prize and the first American Newman Prize for Chinese literature. It has been translated into English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Italian and so on. The reason for the author to choose Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out is that this work has critically important influence in China and even in the world. In addition, the first and second chapters contain quantity of psychological description, common saying, as well as the implied cultural information. Suitably adopting translation strategies under the guidance of Skopos theory to solve the problems in the translation, the author achieves the objective of accumulating translation skills.The translation report includes five parts. The first chapter mainly introduces the adopted translation strategy under the Skopos theory during the translation process and then briefly analyzes the original text background translation task. The third chapter summarizes whole translation process, including preparation, translation schedule and after-translation. The forth chapter mainly lists some special cases met in translation. At last, the fifth chapter makes a conclusion for the translation report. |
