| Singapore is a multi-racial, multi-religious country, religious diversity, the large number of religious believers, religious situation complex and mixed. However, in Singapore, did not like some of the Southeast Asian countries that religious conflict ridden, tolerance and harmony has been the basic melody of religion in Singapore. Therefore, Singapore’s patterns of religious belief caused extensive concern, become an important research topic in academic circles. This paper is based on the data of 1980 to 2010’s Singapore census of population, using the research methods of quantitative analysis, analysis and summarize the development trends and characteristics of religious belief of ethnic Chinese in Singapore in the specific historical, social background. The author thinks, Chinese in Singapore has dual identity features:as a ethnic Chinese, they are inevitably affected by Chinese traditional culture, with some common ethical and psychological characteristics of China. As Singaporeans living in Singapore, a society which grow with such a rapid modernization, into serious tendency of westernization in the process of modernization, they face the social pressure and psychological problems which many modern people must face. In such a complex status and psychological situation, religious choice of ethnic Chinese in Singapore is mainly affected by three factors:1, cultural background and values; 2, the characteristics of religion itself; 3, individual physiological, psychological characteristics. |
