Based on the Interpretive Theory and the translations in A Handbook of Translation of Fujian-Related Terms and Expressions edited by Professor Chen Xiaowei as corpus, the thesis aims at investigating whether some translations of Fujian-related terms in the book fit for interpreting situation.According to the previous studies, the thesis divided the translations of the book into three kinds:political, economical and technical words, folk and cultural words and advertised words. In the light of the Interpretive Theory, I translated some typical Fujian-related terms and expressions and then conducted a survey to investigate how English native speakers perceive the two different versions. Following are the steps of the investigation:firstly, I studied the book, A Handbook of Translation of Fujian-Related Terms and Expressions, and divided the terms and expressions in it into three categories, political, economical and technical words, folk and cultural words and advertised words. Secondly, I chose two typical words or sentences from each category, and translated them in the light of the Interpretive Theory. Thirdly, I wrote texts with the two versions of translation embedded and made videos to create interpretation situation. Fourthly,5 native speakers were invited to answer the questionnaire. Lastly, I analyzed the collected data. Results showed that the translations of political, economical and technical words fit-in the interpreting situation for they fulfill the meaning equivalence whereas the translations of folk and cultural words do not. The understanding of those cultural words requires related cultural backgrounds. Advertised words, bearing the characteristics of different cultures, can not be translated literally. To reach meaning equivalence, the interpreter must have a thorough understanding of the source language and go through the process of deverbalization. The translations of advertised words in the handbook are found to fit in the interpreting situation. The study provides some insight into the C-E interpretation of Fujian-related terms as well as some implications for interpreters.
