With the popularity of Interne t, a majority of foreign films and TV programs swarm into C hina, at the same time, the subtitle translation has been noticed by Chinese people, especially for buzzword translation in comedy films. The present studies focus on the contents, forms and social evaluation, and the theories are relied on the Skopos Theory or the Functional Equivalence Theory, etc. Film translation is kind of literary translation and the Reception Aesthetics Theory is a very important literary theory. While seldom scholars study it from the perspective of Reception Aesthetics Theory. Jauss Hans Robert(1982) believes that only when the works continuity is no longer noticed from the production, but from the consumer, which includes the relationship between author and the public, then may the author creat the art of literature history. This paper attempts to illustrate the practicability of combination between Reception Aesthetics Theory and buzzword translation in comedy films with the priciples of ―the horizon of expectations‖ and ―an appealing structure of the text‖ and the choices of translation strategy. This thesis takes Jauss’ s Reception Aesthetics as the theoretical framework and Wolfgang Issel’s theory as the supplement, including translators and readers’ horizon of expectations and readers’ responses to the appealing structure of the text. According to Jauss Hans Robert’s study of ―the research of literary works transfers the focus from the texts to the readers‖, this thesis mixed the both as the premise for selecting strategies of buzzword translation. Translators should learn audience’s horizon of expectations, and make the aesthetic reproduction of the appealing structure in subtitle translation. In order to achieve the equivalent effects between the target audiences and the audiences in original culture in watching comedy films, domestication is the basic translation strategy. Research methods and procedures of this paper are as follows: this thesis attempts to study buzzword translation from the perspective of Reception Aesthetics, and anayzes buzzword translation in comdey films with the principles of Reception Aesthetics. According to the subtitle translation of fansub groups in recent years, the thesis analyzes the rationality and validity of buzzword usage.Through the analysis, this paper found that: firstly, buzzwords are widely used in subtitle translation in foreign comedy films with a large proportion. Secondly, in film subtitle translation, translators should take the notice of cultural differences and their influence on translation strategies, and finally employ the best strategy and method to deal with the relationship properly between the culture and the translation. Third ly, translators may adopt the proper buzzwords with the perspective of Reception Aesthetics to meet the audience ’s horizon of expectations, so that audiences will connect with the author and feel the humorous atmophere behind the words. This thesis analyses from the perspective of interdiscipline, especially from the perspective of Reception Aesthetics, to some extents, it enriches the study on subtitle translation of the films. It makes a contribution to the literary translatology, and it is helpful to improve the public’s appriciation in literary works. And a contribution to the culture translatology, especially in the perceptive of cultual commnication, the paper shows the essence of translation better. This research may provide theoretical reference for teaching methods in film subtitle translation. The domestication mentioned in the thesis can also be used as a better strategy when translators do their works, so as to help language learners understand and ajust to a new culture, which will be helpful to their language study.
