This thesis contains two parts, the first part is the original text and its translation, the second part is a critical commentary. The original text is the3rd,11th and the20th chapter, about10,000English words, from the book Write Like the Masters, which is written by William and analyzes the writing styles of twenty-one great novelists. Its insightful guidance shows the beginning writers how to imitate the rhetorical techniques and secrets of characterization of literature masters and it is a key to improve their writing abilities.Based on the common ground of Nida’s functional equivalence and Tyler’s three general laws of translation and combined with different characteristics of English and Chinese the critical commentary analyzes the application of translation strategies in English-to-Chinese translating process of literary genre, and the discussion is supported by examples from the translation. Under the guidance of translation theory the author of this thesis has tried her best to make the translated text easier for Chinese readers to understand and more accord with their reading habits. The author of this thesis is also hopes to sum up the experiences in the translating process with the aim of improving future translation and providing some references for the translation work of similar texts.
