| As science and medicine develop leaps and bounds, exchanges among medical care staff are becoming increasingly frequent. English, as an international language, is bound to be a significant carrier of global academic communications. Nowadays, with the rapid development in medical field and the increasingly deep globalization, medical English Translation is playing an increasingly important role in English translation. As we all know, the most complex and wide-range epidemic, namely Ebola virus disease broke out this year across West African countries. Although this epidemic has not spread to China, Chinese people are supposed to prevent it and protect themselves under the help of the health advice published by WHO and CDC, thus the author is responsible to translate the health advice into Chinese for ordinary Chinese.This report is based on the task entrusted by the author’s friend who majors in medicine. The author has translated the health advice about Ebola virus disease on the website of WHO and CDC, which may offer some suggestions for the medical research. This report falls into the field of medical English. At first, the author introduces the translation process and the significance of this report---to provide a readable health advice for ordinary people and medical staff, thus providing a useful solution to major difficulties. In the following chapters, the author provides solutions to the difficulties:how to ensure the accuracy and fluency of translation with effective translation skills (such as conversion, addition, omission, etc.), the assistance of parallel texts and the Skopos Theory as its basic theory. In the final chapter, the author summarizes the report and concludes the linguistic features of health advice of medical English and the translating style, etc.This report aims to provide ordinary Chinese folks and medical care personnel with some useful health advice from the perspective of practicality and linguistic features of medical advice. |
