Pottery is the product of our ancestors’ finding, knowing and practice in the nature-- our ancestors kneaded artifacts combining clay and water. Through the toughening of fire, the clay was hard and insusceptible and it was the antecedent of pottery, opening new chapter of human civilization. Chinese ceramics as one of Chinese ancient traditional cultures has produced various genres and characteristics through different times and different local cultures and social backgrounds in different regions, leaving descendants precious treasures of techniques of manufacturing, shape and decoration. Ceramics art uses unique ceramics material to form the unique artistic language and it’s characterized by its distinct form, artistic glamour and essence of technological culture. During primitive times, practicality was the main focus of pottery, and with the development of culture and people’s demands of living, practicality and aesthetics became both features of pottery gradually, taking advantage of the combination of function and form, technique and technology in the making of ceramic art. And it displays people’s precious wisdom of creation and practice.Influenced by the development of modern civilization and modernism thinking, modern pottery stands out in modern art with its uniqueness. Modern pottery is equipped with distinctive material and artistic language and creators’ emotions are fused to present inimitable pottery forms to the audience via various shape forms and decoration techniques.
