Established in 1920’s, following the forced dismissal of KAPF in 1930’s, the literature events and activities of "Si-mun-hak-pa" and "Guinhoi" that characterized by Pure Literature & Artistry were active and animated. We might even call it "Literary Chaos" to describe the age in which the representations of literature were so diversified and in disorder. A generation like 1930’s carries a significant importance in the history of Korean literature. It was in this generation when the foundation for literature events and activities was spread, artistic literary techniques were developed, the appearance of more journals and newspaper brought along more publication opportunities, and it was when the enlightening literature made its debut. And it was in this generation female writers with variety of literature style began to come on stage.Kang Kyong-ae (1907-1943) can be acknowledged as a female writer in whose works the specific situation of Korea in the 1930’s was pictorially represented. After her short story "Pageum (The Broken Geomungo)" was published through contribution to Chosen Daily (27 Jan,1931-3 Feb,1931), Kang Kyong-ae came on the literature stage with the series of her novelle "Mothers and Daughters(Eomeoni wa ttal)" published on "Hyeseong (Comet)" (Gaebyuksa.May 1931-Apr 1932) and on "Jaeilseon(The Frontline)" (Oct 1932), and she left the world with 2 novels,1 short novel, and 17 short stories,1 conte,4 poems, and 27 essays.Especially, one of Kang Kyong-ae’s works, "The Human Problem (Ingan munje)", was the only Korean novel by female novelist in the 1930’s that reflected the practical problems of the female labors who were victimized by the economic invasion of Imperial Japan, revealing a problem that the contemporary world erroneously values material more than human beings. With significance such as these, "The Human Problem (Ingan munje)" can be called as a good model of enlightening literature.Up to present time, literature criticism has been taken as the research approach to "The Human Problem (Ingan munje)". There are realism studies on the writer’s consciousness of actuality and on the varied forms of the writer’s works, and feminism studies on the writer’s stories that novelizing the main argument of women liberations, as well as the studies on the literary structure of "The Human Problem (Ingan munje)".This study, based on approaches to the semantics and stylistics, intends to look into the stylistic techniques manifested in the "The Human Problem (Ingan munje)", and the characteristics of her unique semantic expression, so as to have a full knowledge to the character of Kang Kyong-ae, a female novelist of the 1930’s in Korea. This study consists of the following four parts.The first part of the study reviews the precedent relevant studies, and sets forth the purpose, significance and research methods of the study.The second part of the study is angled at the stylistic expression methods used in the "The Human Problem (Ingan munje)", divided into lexical expression methods (Direct Metaphor, Metaphor, Metonymy, Personification, Irony, Euphemism, Exaggeration) and syntactic expression methods (Repetition, Comparison, Rhetorical Question and Exclamation, Enumeration, Climax). And through statistical methods, it looks for the typical expressions of the writer such as Direct Metaphor and Exaggeration used in the novel. In addition, it also looks into the expression methods that were repetitively applied and the accompanying expression methods in the one and same writing. Analyses and finds out the causes through statistical approaches to the lexical expression methods, syntactic expression methods, the collaborative application of the two methods and repetitive application of the two in writing.The 4th part, the conclusion of the study, again confirms the writing characteristics of Kang Kyong-ae based on the study result of and statistical data collected from the writer’s stylistic expression methods applied in "The Human Problem (Ingan munje)", and gives analysis over the application of such stylistic expression methods.
