Nie Hualing’s writings cover novels, prose, translation and commentary, all of which are published in Chinese-speaking places as mainland China, Taiwan, America, Hongkong, Singapore and Malaysia. This paper mainly focuses on novels by her. The writers life experiences in different periods will be connected with the detailed analysis on her text so as to probe into the three underlying themes:diaspora, looking back and care, all of which are throughout her text.The first chapter is introduction, clarify the novel’s research purpose and significance;tell us the study situation of Nie’s novels;tell us the research methods in the process of writing this paper.The second chapter aims at exploring how the writer’s experience under diaspora reflects in her works on the basis of the connection between writings and writers. What’s more, stories concerning exile and fugitive manifests the tragedy in which individuals’ identity was not accepted and their freedom was restricted in the twists of political and history.The third chapter tells about the theme of looking back in her writings. In regard of culture. Nie’s homesickness which ripples back and forth in the river, her insistence to the mother language and her deep feelings towards traditional customs are no other than her looking back to the motherland——China. Nie’s looking back towards Mainland China differs from that towards Taiwan in the respect of personal feelings. Speaking of literature creation, she finally adhered to the traditional Chinese writing style after she was forced to accept western writing skills.The forth chapter shows care for females. In the typical unique view of female writer. Nie kept a close eye on women’s living conditions and dilemma of survival under various cultures in different historical period all the time. While showing sufficient sympathy to their destiny, she devoted herself to exploring the way to help them get rid of the trouble on the basis of her understanding to life.
