Huizhou is a relatively stable, closed but open cultural geographicalunit, with a profound cultural background and unique characteristics. Its economicdevelopment, the edification from the Ru Sidao’ thought, the positive guiding roleof public opinion and the government’s recognition and praise to the chivalrous deedall promote the form of it, which lead to the chivalrous deed’s popularity in Huizhou.The residents in Huizhou during the Ming and Qing dynasties have variousmethods to take chivalrous deed. In Huizhou where has the heaviest patriarchal and theLi Xue’s popularity the chivalrous men realize the aim to respect the ancestor andenhance the cohesion among the family members through building the ancestral hall,fix the pedigree, subsidize the poor’s marriage, funeral and the scholar men. Inallusion to the social ills, the chivalrous men are able to plead for the people, protectthe villagers and always be loyal and honest. Meanwhile, they can reach out to the poor.The special natural environment in Huizhou makes natural disaster occur frequently.When the natural disaster happens, they can take active actions to relieve victims. Thechivalrous men in Huizhou all are keen on the public benefit, making contributions tobuilding the bridge, the water conservations and communal facilities.There are some unique characteristics of the special natural and culturalenvironments in Huizhou during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Most of all, the subjectsand objects taking chivalrous deed have keen family atmosphere. For another, all thesociety take chivalrous deed. Once more, the chivalrous deed consists of obvious deedand secret deed. The chivalrous deed in Huizhou during the Ming and Qing dynastieshave a positive impact on local society and people’s livelihood. The chivalrous deed inHuizhou does benefits to maintain social stability, alleviates pressure of the country. Itavails the construction of favourable social mode. The phenomena of litigation andselling of wife or killing of son decreases relatively. It also makes contributions toimprove local traffic conditions and promotes the development of education.
