"Shua Haier" is a kind of old operas which is popular in Yanbeiregion, Shanxi province. Because there are a lot of "ai, hai, ya" andother words in the singing, it is also known as "Keke cavity." Becauseof its long history, Shua Haier is hailed as “the living fossil” in Chineseopera history. Its beautiful melody and moving is wild and uninhibited. The main song is pingqvqi. Performing are mostly small three simpleprograms. Shua Haier is famous for singing and dancing. Performanceis lively. The witty repertoires are popular. The content is full of richlocal character. For all the reasons, Shua Haier has a high heritagevalue. In May2006, Shua Haier in Yanbei region has been listedinto the first list of national intangible cultural heritages. Previousstudies on Shua Haier was was mainly aimed at the origin of it and theopera art noumenon. However, it is the inheritors that keep ShuaHaier preserved, extended and innovated. Based on analysisof consolidation of classics, through field surveys, combined with large mount of oral information and scene observation that I have felt, this article will focus on the inheritors of Shua Haier, carrying on arelatively detailed and comprehensive comparison on the currentliving situation of Shua Haier inheritors and the art itself, aiming atproviding reference on making a better living for the inheritors and theprotecting the art itself. This paper defines two types of Shua Haier inheritors, one of whichis the "non-legacy" project representative successors that deemedby the government. Another kind is the flok artists that have neverbeen given necessary attention to for a long time. Xue Ruihong, thenational intangible cultural heritager, and Zhang Xianglan, the folkaritst in Yan Feng Ying village, Huairen country, Datong are the twocase studies selected respectively. Through the way of inheritance, acting type, performance characteristics, attitude and art heritagestatus. This article has record in detials and made a comparison of“passing on” and “carrying on”. Xue Ruihong is not only born in an artfamily, but also received the formal education and training oftraditional Chinese opera in an art school. Her prformence is veryvarious in types and her profession can be recognized in every partof the performance. So Xue is pursuing excellence on her art career. Now she is orderly inheriting Shua Haier scientifically andsystematically. At the same time, the folk inheritor lives a quite different condition. Zhang Xianglan, who lives in Yan Feng Yingvillage, Huairen country, has almost never received professionalChinese opera education. Her skill was mainly throughfamily inheritance. Though Zhang’s performance type and concreteform are very simple, she becomes expert in one field whilepossessing all-roundknowledge and ability. Thirty years is anaustere artist is aduous, yet she is insisting Shua Haier under thesurvival pressure. Now Zhang has faced the circumstance thatsmall numbers in onheritors and deficiency in the content ofinheritance, which is very worrying. These two Shua Haier inheritorshave been facing the realistic problems that the opera market islosing and its audience are getting old. However is it also difficult forthem to be individualistic. From the respect of protection andaccording to these two types of inheritors, and the concretemeasures should be taken into consideration. While no matterwhich kind of the inheritors are, in order to ensure Shua Haier, theanicent art, continued to be inherited, which is a very significantcause, they all should strengthen the cultural consciousness andraise their awareness of heritage, Further more, the physicalheritage as an important carrier of intangible cultural heritage hasnot get enough attention, which is a respect that needs our attetionurgently.
