Temple garden, one of three major classical gardens in China, is representative on both sides of architectural environment designs and humanistic environment designs. Buddhism is a friendly culture that leads people to be kind towards their daily life, which has significant meanings to the stability of current society and the construction of ecological civilization, especially, for consoling and beautifying modern people’s mind. This paper, by collecting related references on Chinese mountain scenic spots of Buddhism culture landscape, mainly analyzes problems existing among tourism developments of Buddhism culture landscapes on temple gardens, and proposes planning methods corresponding to problems mentioned in the paper. Major research outcomes are as follows:(1) By reading related references and classifying Chinese temple landscapes development history, temple landscapes, as a conclusion, have meaningful values of religion, ornament and ecology.(2) Analysis of Buddhism cultural landscapes in mountain scenic spots. By field studies in famous Buddhism cultural scenic spots in Hunan province, this paper is trying to extract design elements for Buddhism cultural landscapes, to conclude reasons for issues existing in Buddhism cultural landscapes in mountain scenic spots, eg, insufficient construction and protection for Buddhism cultural landscape resources, no strong Buddhism culture, serious commercialization, lack of religious education function, regulation confusion, etc.(3) Based on field researching, the paper points out principles for protection and utilization of Buddhism cultural landscapes in mountain scenic spots; that is, principle of truthfulness, reinforcing heritage function for Buddhism culture, paying attention to artistic conception and resources balancing, and sustainable development. Besides, this paper further explains planning measures for the resources protection plan of humanistic landscapes, space plan for temple gardens, vegetations, roads system and garden parergons.(4) Combing planning theories proposed by the author and field study case in Yunyan temple scenic spot in Liling, Zhuzhou, this paper interprets traditional Buddhism values from four aspects:general plotting, general arrangement, visit tour design and vegetation landscape design of Yunyan temple, in order to exert elements of Buddhism cultural landscape into garden temple designs.
