A Report On English Translation Of Chinese Literary Criticism

Literary criticism is a practical activity of revealing the rules of literature development to guide the literary creation by means of literary theories and phenomenon. It includes poetry criticism, essay criticism, novel criticism, etc. Through the analysis and evaluation of new Chinese poetry’s development process and their characteristics at every stage, this paper focuses on a translator’s preparation, translation theories, analysis of source text and different translation methods frequently used in the process of Chinese-English translation. To combine translation methods with translation principles is useful to guide the translation practice in the future.The paper includes an introduction and five chapters. Chapter One is focusing on the content of this translation project and the significance of choosing this material. Chapter Two gives an account of the preparation before translation, translation process, difficult problems, then proofreading and modification at last. Chapter Three summarizes translation principles and analyzes the feature of source text in order to grasp the keynote and translate the essence. Chapter Four lists several useful translation methods through case analysis, including literal translation and free translation, addition and omission, division and combination. If these methods are appropriately applied, the translation would be precise, fluent, concise and understandable. Chapter Five is to make a conclusion of this translation practice and experience I learn from this project, finally some practical suggestions are proposed to guide the practice in the future.
