A Study On General Hus

The story of General Hus is one of the traditional general stories that are popularwith our Chinese people, which is always passed from one to another inChina.During the Song, Yuan and Ming period, there were some records of the Husand Hu Yanzan’s story was mentioned in some scholar’s notes. The stories of HuYanzan and Hu Yanbixian were also displayed in zaju plays and chapter novelsduring these periods. But the development of General Hus was rather inferior to thatof General Yangs of the same period. In Qing Dynasty the story experiencedunprecedented development, with complete novels, Guci, storytelling, Tanci andopera, etc about it. In the process of the development of General Hus, with thescholars’ works and folk arts, its pilots were enriched and became tortuous, its figuresmore and more vivid. And at last the grand General Hus epic was formed. The reasonwhy the story can be developed so quickly and continuously is that this story wasbased on reality and accords with audience’s taste and of course it has otheradvantages for it to develop. This passage, based on historical facts, will do somehistorical study of the main characters in the story and comprehensively sort outliterature materials, such as zaju plays, novels, storytelling and opera, so that thedevelopment of General Hus can be sorted out from the very beginning and thecharacteristics and reasons of its development can be summarized.
