A Mercy is a new book of the outstanding female writer Toni Morrison in the history of American literature, which has caused the enthusiastic response from all walks of life since it was published in2008. It is a model of the performance of ecological wisdom by women. In recent years, this novel has been regarded as a classic literary research. Many literary critics study the work from different perspectives.In China, eco-feminism is still in the exploratory stage both in theory and practice. Researches on the ecological feminism are scarce, which haven’t reached the level of complete system. This paper attempts to interpret ecological female consciousness of Toni Morrison in her novel from the perspective of eco-feminism, so that readers can feel and enjoy the unique charm of ecological feminism embodied in A Mercy, while providing a reference for the deeper and more valuable research on ecological feminism. The text is divided into three parts:introduction, main text and conclusion.Introduction involves the significance of Tony Morrison’s research, while summarizing the theories on eco-feminism and sorting out the general idea of this paper.The main text is divided into four chapters, which takes the eco-feminism theory as the theoretical foundation of this paper, while describing the relationship between the various parts, according to the viewpoint that both sexes constitute human society and human living space, which contains natural ecology, social ecology and spiritual ecology.The first chapter discusses the relationship between nature and women from the perspective of natural ecology. First of all, it appreciates the natural landscape of the North American colonies, and denounces the destruction behaviors to nature by human beings. Then, it elaborates the characteristics of women in natural ecology. Finally, it points out the intimate relationship between nature and women explicitly from the perspective of ecological feminism.The second chapter probes into the relationship between patriarchal society and women from the perspective of social ecology. First, it elaborates the damage to the people of different races mentally and physically by distorted social relations. Then, it discusses the characteristics of women in social ecological aspects-resistance or compliance. Finally, it points out the relationship between society and women from the perspective of ecological feminism clearly.The third chapter studies at the relationship between female and ego from the perspective of spiritual ecology. First, this paper points out that people who receive "spiritual persecution" tainting "civilization diseases" and going far away from the true inner self. Then, this paper discusses the characteristics of women in the spiritual world, and compared with the spiritual world of men in the novel. Last, it elaborates that women and ego have a close relationship in energetic ecology aspect from the perspective of ecological feminism.The fourth chapter discusses the confrontation and fusion with nature and society by human beings from the perspective of ecological holism.In the conclusion part, the author elaborates her understanding on eco-feminism and Tony Morison’s new work A Mercy.This novel criticizes the brutal act of human beings at the expense of ecological environment to realize the industrial and economic development. It provides beneficial enlightenment for mankind to explore the relationship between man and nature, while alleviating the ecological crisis. At the same time, it is beneficial for us to get on with the urgency and importance to maintain the harmonious coexistence between human and nature in worsening ecological and survival crisis.
