Humor plays an important role in the daily life which can helppeople communicate better, which can release tension, promoteinterpersonal communication and improve the skills of competitiveness.Verbal humor can not be ignored as one of the means of communicationin our life. English verbal humor phenomenon is good for us to know thereason why there are some difficulties in our conversation. In the processof our communication, there exist some differences between Chinese andwestern humor and the generation of humor is caused by thetransformation of the dynamic context. From the perspective of dynamicpragmatics, this article analyzes the phenomenon of verbal humor in theEllen Show, which can help us better understand the produce of theprocess of the humor in English and improve the abilities of usingEnglish and understanding English culture better. Ellen Show is a talk show andthe dynamic pragmatics are closely linked with the verbal humor.Therefore an analysis of the talk show Ellen Show from the perspective ofdynamic pragmatic is not only a practice into theory and a test formastering the theories.Through the pragmatic analysis and research, it helps make people better understand the humor, and applies it into thereal life. What’s more, humor helps people to alleviate the atmosphere ofconversation and adjust the relaxing atmosphere of conversation, whichmakes the communication between people become closer and smoother.The thesis mainly connects the pragmatic theories with verbalhumor closely. Therefore the application of the context of the dynamicpragmatics into people’s live can be analyzed from the following aspects:Firstly, from the perspective of dynamic pragmatic, the important pointspresents that the analysis of relationship between the change of contextand the sense of humor. From this part, the nature of appearance ofverbal humor and the reason changing the context producing humorouseffect can be found from the perspective of pragmatic during the study.Secondly, the relationship between the verbal humor and the PolitenessPrinciple is probed. In the talk show Ellen show the host and guest oftencause humorous effect because of following the Politeness Principle orflouting the Politeness Principle. Thirdly, the relationship between thetopic changes and the verbal humor is one factor that could result in thehumor. In the conversation, the speaker freely talks about some topics andchanges the topics suddenly. At the same time, the same scene, thecontents we talk about may result in the generation of humor.
