New culture, new system, new trends and new ideas that can be reflected in thesocial life are bound to be reflected in our language in some certain and appropriateforms. The development and application of the Internet have provided people withmore communication ways and opportunities. Network address terms which alsoincreasingly diversified, such as “mei nv”,“shuai ge” can be used on many occasions. Thus, the study of the usage and attitudes towards these network address terms isneeded.“Qin” as a network term has been widely used in Internet shopping andonline chatting. As “Qin” has gradually got more welcome and acceptation, it hasbeen extended to daily life in recent years. Thus,“Qin” as a new languagephenomenon needs a further research. Moreover, the researches on network term“Qin” from the perspective of sociolinguistics are also in process. So it is necessaryto do a research on the use of “Qin” in daily communication from the perspective ofsociolinguistics. This paper adopts both quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, namely, aquestionnaire and an interview. With the theoretical framework, such as Labov’slanguage variation theory, power and solidarity principle, sex roles socializationtheory, women register and politeness principle, this paper mainly researches on thefollowing four questions from sociolinguistic perspective: a) the wide range of “Qin”in daily communication; b) the factors that affect the frequency of the use of “Qin”; c)the factors that affect addressers’ attitudes; d) the attitudes of the addressees towardit. It gets the conclusion that “Qin” has been widely used in our daily life through aquantitative analysis. The use frequency of “Qin” is affected by some social factors, such as gender, age and occupation. Through an analysis of the results, the followingstatements can be got. Women use “Qin” more frequently in their daily life than men;young people are more likely to use it than old people. People who work in a freeenvironment tend to use it more frequently while people under a relatively serious circumstance do not use it. At the same time, the addressers should take some factorsinto account, such as the addressee, situation and motivation. Most of the addressersand addressees are peers including classmates, friends and even strange peers. Mostof the situations of the use of “Qin” are informal rather than the formal. And themotivation that they use it is to make more intimacy. Through an interview analysisof “Qin” in daily communication, the addressers’ attitudes toward the use of “Qin”can be summarized. The use of “Qin” in daily communication does not get allpeople’s acceptation and a number of people are not so comfortable when they areaddressed by “Qin” or hard to accept it. What’s more, the use of “Qin” in a writtenform is more acceptable than in a spoken form. Therefore, people should take some factors into consideration when usingnetwork address term in daily communication, such as gender, age and occupation ofthe addressees. Meanwhile, the addressers should also consider the addressee, situation and motivation and so on. A random use will cause a perishing effect.People should take the relevant factors into account to make a proper communicationwhen using network address terms in daily communication.
