In this paper, the author intends to, through analytical analysis and empirical study, explore the influence of using prepositional phrases as adverbials on the quality of interpretation; and try to summarize several interpretation tactics for some typical cases.In the theoretical part, the author introduces the linguistic phenomenon of prepositional phrases as adverbials, reviews Daniel Gill’s Effort Mode, and analyzes this linguistic phenomenon’s influence on Chinese-to-English simultaneous interpretation.On the basis of theoretical study and empirical research, the author makes quantitative analysis on the influence of prepositional phrases on the interpretation quality. The research results show that the influence is quite large. The author then makes qualitative analysis on this linguistic phenomenon, and summarizes some coping tactics.The conclusion is:the linguistic phenomenon of prepositional phrases as adverbials may add to the burden of interpreters in Chinese-to-English simultaneous interpretation. Interpretation tactics such as anticipation, segmentation, and conversion can help interpreters cope with the difficulties and improve the quality of interpretation.
