As globalization is deepened, people speaking different languages communicate more frequently with each other. Translation plays a role of bridge between them. However, Chinese-English translation is not easy. One of the reasons is the big differences between Chinese and English, which are rooted in different Chinese and English patterns of thought. The author chooses Liu Yu’s The Details of Democracy as the translation source text, analyzes the influences of different patterns of thought on translation from Chinese to English, and puts forward the corresponding translation strategies to solve specific problems in order to obtain a natural and idiomatic translation. In this paper, the author introduces the contrastive studies of Chinese and English patterns of thought done by previous scholars, analyzes the influences of different patterns of thought on translation from Chinese to English, including category words, zero-subject structure and implicit cohesion and explicit cohesion, and puts forward the corresponding translation strategies for these three problems.
