The purpose of this study is not only to compare and analysis the male prisoners’psychological health status, coping styles and individual differences and to research thecorrelation of the psychological health status and coping styles, but also to improve thepsychological health and the level of coping styles. It can effectively reduce the maleprisoners’ psychological and behavioral problems.The138male prisoners of Shijiazhuang Prison were investigated with Self-evaluationcheck list90(SCL-90) and Coping style questionnaire. The results of the study show:1.Thestatus of the psychological health of male prisoners were serious abnormal.2. The maleprisoners’ psychological health status were significant difference in the demographyvariables of the educational degrees、the marital status, different family environment andcrime frequencies. The male prisoners with different educational degrees were significantdifference in the factors of depression, anxiety, phobia; The male prisoners with differentmarital status were significant difference in the factor of paranoid, psychosis; The maleprisoners with different family environment were significant difference in the factor ofparanoid; The male prisoners with different crime frequencies were significant difference inthe factor of compulsiveness、interpersonal sensitivity, phobia.3. The coping of styles were,in order, problem resolution, retreat, help seeking, illusion, rationalization, self-blaming. Themale prisoners tended to choose the mature and positive coping styles. The male prisoners’coping styles were significant difference in the demography variables of the educationaldegrees, jobs, the marital status, and crime frequencies. The male prisoners with differenteducational degrees were significant difference in the factors of problem resolution,helpseeking, rationalization; Before imprison, The male prisoners with different jobs weresignificant difference in the factor of help seeking; The male prisoners with different maritalstatus were significant difference in the factor of self-blaming, help seeking; The maleprisoners with different crime frequencies were significant difference in the factor of illusionand retreat;4. Correlation analysis of the male prisoners’ psychological health status and thecoping styles: The psychological health status of the male prisoners were negatively correlated with problem resolution and help seeking, and were positively correlated withself-blaming, illusion, retreat, rationalization. Illusion and self-blaming were positivelycorrelated with the scores of total and the factors of SCL-90; problem resolution werenegatively correlated with compulsiveness、interpersonal sensitivity、phobia; Retreat werepositively correlated with the total scores of SCL-90and the factor of somatization,compulsiveness, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, phobia, paranoid, psychosis;Rationalization were positively correlated with the factor of somatization, compulsiveness、phobia and the total scores of SCL-90,The differences were statistically significant; Theresults of multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that the primary factors thatinfluenced male prisoners’ psychological health status were illusion, problem resolution,retreat.
