Study Of Dong Chungshu-from The Angle Of The Great Unified Governance

This paper will study on varies aspects of Dong Chungshu, especially focus on histheory of unified governance in value system for the outstanding contribution he has made totraditional Chinese governance theory and his Dramatic status also experience in the history.Only by backing to the historical, political and social conditions and his life and mind, only tolearn that it is specific conditions made Dong and his theory’s controversial situation.Nevertheless, as for the theory, evaluations simple from the angle of utilitarianism andimposing faults to precedents are not advisable. In this modern and diversified society, peoplehave got more tolerant. Meanwhile, simple on the side of criticism to evaluate precedentswould be never worthy, nether to the future nor to the past. Academically, instead of simplecritics and blame. Multi-viewpoints and tolerant attitude should be taken to digest wisdomfrom precedents. After all, this would bring benefits contemporarily and future, which is ofthe most importance.In this paper, the connotation of the unified theory is interpreted as main part, so that itsconnotations could be learned abundantly. Beside of that, Dong’s ontology is discussed andnew points to some controversially perspectives are proposed.This paper is started with Dong’s ontology, and his theory of heaven-human inductionand Yin Yang five elements is consolidated on the foundation of the analysis for its coreconcepts such as heaven, unity, and element. Then interpret the logical starting point ofDong’s mind and his foundation of ideology to fully understand his theory. Next Dong’sunified theory is deeply criticized and consolidated from aspects of history, ideology, powerstructure and system of manners to explore its profound meaning. Finally, authenticallyrestore original Dong and his deeds, theory. Then new perspectives are proposed to comparewith viewpoints by other scholars.
